WRITING CONTEST! WIN! SHOWCASE YOUR WRITING TALENTS!

I have an assignment for all you paranormal/fantasy book lovers who also want write. (I stole this from my author friend Tessa Dawn) Finish one or more of the following "starters" with your own couple of paragraphs, as if you're penning your own paranormal romance/urban fantasy book. We'll have a vote and the winner takes home a copy of I Kissed a Dog! Contest ends, October 10. So start writing!

1. I should have known better when ...

2. A forlorn howl pieced the quiet night sending a spiral of chills down my spine ...

3. Vampires were myths, or so I thought. The night I finally entered the Cosmic Club I discovered...

4. Every evening, right before bed, I perform a very specific ritual: brush teeth, wrestle with hair, hoping to tame the messy mass, and lastly, I lather on enough face cream to prevent wrinkles for another century. Despite my roommates warnings, I leave my window open. What can I say? The cool evening air is what makes this time so special. Though, if I get honest, there's more to my need for an open window. Someone's out there. I feel his eyes on me, and rather than frightening or disgusting me, I feel desired.

Something has changed tonight, though. Tonight, he's coming closer. I can feel it. And I'm ...

5. I love my job. Studying wildlife in its natural setting has been my dream since childhood. The wolf pack I've been watching this past week is fascinating. Their alpha senses my presence, yet allows me to remain and observe much closer than I'd ever expected. I'm honored by his trust. The females seem wary, but put up with my clumsy attempts to follow silently.

Tonight I'm watching from a nearby tree where I've managed to position myself in a "chair of branches." I had to leave most of my equipment behind, but couldn't resist the opportunity see what my wolf friends are up to. From my perch, I can see the full moon, hanging like a golden orb in the darkening sky, and the entire pack clustered in the open field below.

I ended up in the tree when the big male approached me with a menacing growl and glint in his eyes that just wasn't, well, it wasn't normal. I know I sound like a wimp, and probably a little nuts, but for the first time I don't feel welcome. It's the moon. They're distracted and pacing, glancing from the moon to my position in the tree. I should have taken the hint and hi-tailed it back to my car, but I just have to see what's going to happen. Because, without doubt, something beyond strange is going on ...
