Night Owl Romance Reviews

What started as what seemed a pretty simple and straight forward story quickly became a complex multi-dimensional story that grabbed my interest and kept me wondering, what next. Power struggles, magical powers, trust issues and so much more complicate what could have been a simple romance making it a mixture of a paranormal romance and mystery. The world created has you visiting a tourist park, Vegas and its lush splendors, a creepy old school and just about everything in between. And, the characters range from werewolf to vampire to over protective cop dad! There seems to be a touch of everything but yet it meshes so very well that you don’t notice. This is a first book as the ending is a cliff hanger. Don’t look for your typical happy ending as there is nothing typical in this book. However, don’t expect a quick intro and a serial book either as this is a full length book with lots going on. I’m not sure who all to trust but I’m going to trust that Ms. van Atta writes fast and can get the next book in this series out soon!

Chloe Carpenter looks like a typical woman but after an accident in your youth, she’s able to communicate with animals which makes her job at a wildlife part easier. It also helps that her boss understands and appreciates this skill. Though Chloe is attracted to her boss, she’s surprised when she is really attracted to the new vet that is brought in and she can kind of read his mind. She can’t read human minds! Zane Marshall in an enforcer for his pack and has been sent to investigate some murders that have occurred in the area. He’s also to find the woman who speaks to animals. Zane is able to do that quickly enough but he doesn’t expect to feel an attraction towards her. She’s human and he’s full-blooded werewolf which is not a good combination. Can he keep his job and his desire separate? And, can he figure everything out without letting the humans know that he’s a werewolf? Definitely an interesting book and worth checking out.

Diana (Offbeat Vagabond)

I Kissed A Dog is definitely a Paranormal Romance that tickled my fancy. Werewolves, vampires and whatever you can think of in between, I had a blast with this book. Quite the page-turner for this Urban Fantasy nut.

The characters in this book were so different and a lot of fun. No dull moments that is for sure. Our main character Chloe has a special ability. She can talk to animals through telepathy which is why she works at the zoo. But she can only do it with animals, so she finds it extra weird that she can hear the thoughts of the new hot vet that comes in to work with her. I really liked Chloe, but she could be a bit confrontational at times. Chloe snaps at Zane sometimes when he does something that seems a bit jerk-worthy. She was quite the feisty one, but it she wasn't annoying and that is what matters. Zane was delicious as hell. Book boyfriend worthy. I do like the mystery of why he was working at the zoo. There is a lot more that meets the eye.

I also enjoyed Zane's sexy friends as well especially the vampire Alcuin. He made me giddy. I loved the friendship they all have. Not like the usual vampire vs. werewolf Actually, it isn't the usual anything. Atta does a great job putting her own spin on vampire/werewolf mythology which I love. Another thing to love were the villains and Atta gave us plenty to choose from. You have Jazmine, who from the first sentence you can tell would be the mega-b****. And boy, that is not even the half of it. Zane was promised to her as a mate and with Chloe in town, that messes up whatever plans she has up her sleeves. Zane doesn't trust her because she craves power and Zane can give that too her. Not to mention, he feels she may be behind the murders that have been going around town. But he has no proof.

The story is action packed and very thrilling. There seems to always be a bump in the road and the further you go, that bump gets bigger. I love the supernatural mystery Atta gives us. You think you have things figured out, but there is much more to it than you think. That is especially true given the ending of the book. It is not over, boy it is not over. What a rush.

This is a wonderful read. The story was suspenseful and full of mystery. I couldn't put this down. Although the only complaint I do have is the cover. It is a beautiful cover, but Chloe should be darker. Her and the wolf actually. I am just saying. Nonetheless, this was a page-turner. I am uber-excited for book 2. I Kissed A Dog has definitely left an impression and I have every intention on getting book 2 the moment it comes out. One of my favorite reads of 2012!

Author Jessica McQuay

For Me, I Kissed a Dog is one of the most thrilling, entertaining, and mysterious reads of 2012! From beginning to end, I couldn't get enough of this story.

Atta takes us into the life of Chloe Carpenter - a beautiful, smart woman who is talented in more ways than one. And although a bit stubborn and strong willed, underneath the outgoing, witty exterior, she is real, shares the same fears as any regular person, and struggles with figuring out who she is and what she wants.

Chloe's abilities land her smack dab in the middle of supernatural chaos taking place between a number of paranormal beings. Between the sexy, rugged, protective werewolf, Zane, and the seductive, allusive vampire, Valamir, Chloe has her hands more than full. But her man worries are only the beginning of her problems as she finds herself entangled in more than she bargained for when a mystery begins to unfold.

A plot thick with many layers, a ton of enticing characters that you can't help but love, and alpha males galore (literally and figuratively), I Kissed  a Dog is a novel you should put on your must read list!

5 stars! And that's only because the scale doesn't go any further on goodreads! I couldn't put it down!

Twigs (Bitten by Paranormal Romance)

Loved Zane! Chloe, I had a hard time dealing with. To me she seemed somewhat bratty and annoyingly difficult. Although I couldn't blame her too much. A mate she didn't ask for, a smitten vampire, and an evil someone after for her particular talents, would make any girl a bit bitchy. An interesting twist on the typical werewolf. Will keep you turning the pages to see what happens next!

Amazon Reader's Review (5 stars)

This is the first book that I have read by Carol Van Atta. As soon as I started reading it I was hooked. She is an awesome writer and the story is easy to follow. I could not put the book down from the time it arrived and finished it in one weekend. The character development was outstanding and very well done. If you are a twilight, vampire diaries, or true blood fan you will love this book. I can't wait for the second book to come out and will be recommending it to all my friends and family.

Amazon Reader's Review (5 stars)

This book is a well down work of fiction. I got it and started it. It took a couple of hours, but I read straight through. The characters of Chloe and Zane are good together and I can't wait to read more about them.
